On April 27, 2023, SAFE held the Youth Leadership Summit that connected youth leaders for evidence-based information on fake fentanyl from local experts, an inspirational talk, and a panel discussion from family members and survivors of fake fentanyl addiction. These students represented 25 districts in Eastern Washington with 175 students selected to attend.
Students learned about illicit Fentanyl and its dangers to communities, teens, and young adults. They heard the message that one decision can change your life.
The focus was on bringing youth together from across the region to learn and grow together, and emboldened the students to continue their work educating their peers about the dangers of fentanyl and how talking about it is vital in fighting the epidemic.
It also armed the students with important information, such as how illicit pills look identical to legal drugs and never to ingest something you don’t know its origin. Also, always carry Narcan because you never know when you need it.
